Mountain Biking

Hilly towns, mountainous villages, and protected parks provide ample opportunity for mountain biking. In Cabarete, adventure outfitters can take riders on multiple trails of varying difficulty inside El Choco National Park, including an intense 50-meter (31-mile) endurance challenge. The central mountainous region’s winding, traffic-free roads line plantations–from Jarabacoa to Constanza–and are ideal to explore on mountain bike, with rivers and waterfalls for cooling off along the way. Bayahíbe’s Cotubanamá National Park, ideally close to the town’s white sand beaches, is as mystical as it gets, with paths leading towards spring water-filled caves.

Mountain bikes, with essential protective gear, are available year-round in the major resort towns, or through adventure tour operators.

MOUNTAIN BIKING IN
Dominican Republic

Strap on your helmet, hop on a bike, and conquer scenic mountain-flanked paths, or cave-filled trails deep inside national parks.

El Choco National Park offers a world of nature for hikes, mountain biking, swimming in fresh water lagoons, and cave exploration. Stretching 78 square kilometers (30 square miles), a handful of hiking trails take you through thick tropical forest along cacao and coffee trees, and into caves dating back millions of years.
Puerto Plata
From lush national parks hugged by mountains to forest trails leading to caves, and hilly roads to coffee plantations: Barahona is ideal for mountain biking adventures.
Barahona
Miles of dirt roads along the old El Choco Road and inside the protected El Choco National Park make Cabarete the ideal mountain biking playground. There’s even an intense 50-kilometer (31-mile) biking challenge.
Puerto Plata
Ride your way around Constanza’s scenic valleys, vegetable fields, and narrow town roads. The entire area was made for cycling adventures. Wind your way around various vegetable plantations.
Constanza
Bike your way to the area’s waterfalls, to La Confluencia riverside park, or merely along scenic neighborhoods, surrounded in glorious green expanse and views of the impressive peaks of the Cordillera Central.
Jarabacoa
Agua Blancas waterfall, one of the highest altitude cascades in the Caribbean, tumbles 83 meters (272 feet), splattering into a large and cold jade pool hugged by a terrain blanketed in tall pine and green ebony trees. Footbridges and a wooden platform allow you observe the falls from a near distance, and you can step down closer to its lower pools.
Constanza
Known for offering exceptional bird watching and mountain trekking opportunities, Valle Nuevo is one of Constanza’s crown jewels. At an altitude of more than 2,200 meters (7,200 feet), it is home to over 500 species of plants–138 endemic to Valle Nuevo–as well as numerous species of amphibians and butterflies.
