Horseback Riding

Horseback riding is deeply entrenched in Dominican culture, an influence going back centuries to the colonial Spanish times. You can horseback ride along the hills, and colorful villages of the DR in any location countrywide. Puerto Plata’s hills are difficult to beat, with a lush terrain that passes by rivers, cattle, and vast swaths of pure Caribbean scenery. Samaná’s coconut-filled valleys and clifftop sea views offer a dreamy backdrop. In Bayahíbe, you can get into the hills alongside sugar plantations. La Romana’s Casa de Campo boasts one of the best equestrian centers in the Caribbean, and offers cattle ranch trails, as well expert-led lessons in English or Western-style riding and jumping.

Whether novice or expert, horseback riding is a fun way to explore the DR’s countryside.
